SGS HUD v 3.508 Bugfix

Bugfixes:

– Ability to have more than 12 groups for each species to choose from (it will fix a bug in Goatswood with the new groups/races).

– It resolves a timeout in SETUP

Group Leadership Elections

We started elections for the following groups: Djnn, Knight, Citizen, Magi, Slaver and Priests.

If you wish to be a candidate, you must be at least a clan leader and signup as candidate at the scroll in front of the Good Knight Tavern.

Candidacy is open until next weekend, then we start to vote. If there is only one candidate, he will still run against ‘No leader’ selection (in case the group members prefer to be led by the clan council instead of an unique leader).

SGS HUD v 3.488 Bugfix Release

If you played soccer in KOS, you didn’t always gain agility. It was a bit buggy. So that has been fixed, and the % of agility / strength is also displayed on the HUD screen , so you can monitor it.

This upgrade is optional.

Ban on Cross SGS sim criticism

We have had reports of Players from one of our sims using the public chat of that sim to criticise another of our sims. This is clearly unacceptable.
This is kind of behaviour is totally banned from all public Chat in any sim. Besides it being an offensive way to act towards me and Kora, you should know that the harm you do to one sim will eventually reflect on all the others.  Please do not do it, or we will have to take drastic action to stop those that do.

Co-tenants – Limit 1 Tenant

Attention: Co-tenants cannot share prims with multiple tenants. This is because it is impossible to know who you rezzed prims for, if you rezz for multiple people.
If a cotenant is added to a rental, he will  be removed as  cotenant from any other rentals.

Different people will tell you different stories about lag and what is causing it.
Instead of boring you with the technicalities, it is easier if I set some limits.
Below that limits, you can be sure that you are not causing lag.

GOOD if:
– SCRIPT TIME is 0.350ms or below
– SCRIPT COUNT is 30 or below
– MEMORY ALLOCATION: TBD
– AVATAR RENDERING COST: 2000 or below

If you are found to wear laggy attachments, there is nothing to be ashamed or upset about.
You just have to contact the creator of the object and ask for a low-lag replacement of it.
Linden Lab is introducing limits on scripts both on region and on individual avatars, so becoming aware of your lag numbers (either low or high) is a necessity.

You will find articles out there saying that scripts don’t cause lag. Whoever thinks that is *delusional*. Sorry 🙂
Passive scripts are not to blame though (I am in favor of passive scripts).
Linden Labs changed the way the servers handle the scripts, and that is fine, but what happens nowadays is that if the server is overload by too many active scripts, it simply queue them , so instead of crashing the sim, your script will fail or timeout because  the server is busy running other things.

Server resources are limited and shared. So while you can run hundreds bad scripts in an empty sim without causing lag, you will almost halt the execution of any script if you move to a busy region. It is just a matter to be reasonable.

And to be honest, the responsability falls on scripters, ultimately (me included).

The numbers below are divided between GREEN, YELLOW,  ORANGE, and RED

If you are GREEN – it is VERY GOOD. You are very low lag and no need to worry any further
If you are YELLOW – it is NOT SO GOOD, and no matter what, you should at least find the source of the lag in what you wear
If you are ORANGE – it is BAD. You have to investigate, but if the traffic of the SIM is below 20 avatars, it is probably not a major concern.
If you are RED – it is VERY BAD. You definitely need to remove those attachments and/or ask me for help if you cannot identify them.

Again, no matter what, I will help you.

Only SIM managers can find out the script time. But this measure is *VERY* important.
If you receive a lag warning message from me, then please check on your scripted attachments.
Scripts do not cause lag. Bad scripts do.

Scripts with active listeners and timers and bad code in general cause enourmous strain on the server.
Resizeable or colorable high-prims attachments are generally the worst offenders, such as scripted hair or scripted belts and boots.
There are new functions in LSL to resize items with 1 script instead of 200 of them, so if you have one of these items, please contact the creator and ask for a low-lag replacement or a way to remove the scripts from your items.
Some hair designers added a menu to delete the resizer script once you fit on your avatar. Just create a copy of the hair before removing the scripts.

If the time dilation of a SIM is below 0.90, it is definitely caused by scripts.

(At the time being time dilation drops quickly when someone wearing Mono scripts enter the SIM, so quick and temporary drops of time dilation are not a concern, because there is nothing we can do about it).

The laggiest items in a SIM are AVATARS wearing scripted attachments, without any doubt.

Below 0.350ms: GREEN
0.350 – 0.550ms: YELLOW
0.550 – 0.800ms: ORANGE
Above 0.800: RED

If you are above ORANGE/RED, you definitely wear some badly scripted attachments.

What is the script time of attachments?
– Passive scripts are usually 0.002-0.010ms (all good)
– An average AO is about 0.070ms
– The SGS stuff  (HUD+Meter+Weapons) is about 0.080ms
– Some collars are 0.200ms (BAD!)
– Scripted Hair is often 0.600ms(BAD!)
– Some HUDs are 0.400ms (BAD!)
– Some scripted high-prim jewelry is 0.400ms (BAD!)
– Radars are often 0.400ms (BAD!)

Ask me if you want to check on your script time, and I will let you know.

If you have Phoenix (or maybe some other viewer), you can find out how many scripts an avatar wears (it doesn’t count scripted items worn as HUD, but only worn as body attachments).

Below 30: GREEN
30 – 40: YELLOW
40 – 60: ORANGE
Above 60: RED

The SGS Meter has 4 scripts,  a SGS weapons (both items) is about 4 scripts max.
A large number of scripts is likely to cause ‘overload’ on the server, so keep it low.

If you have Phoenix, click on your ‘body’ and select ‘S. Count’ from the menu. It will show the number of scripts your avatar wear, or the number of scripts for that specific attachment, if you click on one of it.

If you don’t have Phoenix, ask a friend to find out the number for you.

A high ARC affects the lag on the client side, so your viewer and everybody else around you.
When you have hard time to move or to rezz, even when time dilation is fine, it is likely lag on the client side.

To see everybody’s ARC, go in Advanced Menu (CTRL+ALT+D, if you don’t see it)
Enable Advanced > Rendering > Info Displays > Avatar Rendering Cost.

Below 2000: GREEN
2000 – 3000: YELLOW
3000 – 4000: ORANGE
Above 4000: RED

If your attachments are high-prim or use high-resolution textures, they are likely to be the cause of high ARC.
If not, read the wiki link above.

ARC doesn’t really compute anything precisely, but it is more an arbitrary number based on many variables.
If you keep it low, you cannot be wrong.

Privacy Preferences

Did you set all the privacy settings so  your profile is now hidden from search? Did you send an IM and never get a reply from either me or Baal? The new Viewer 2.0 doesn’t allow people search on those who kept their profile hidden. I keep trying to contact people with hidden profile and no chance to reply back. So just be aware that it is what you really want to. – to never get a reply back from us 😉

Content of the Delivery Boxes updated

The content of the Delivery Boxes has been updated. If you get one or more items from it, they will both work on Nomos and Nomos2 regions. Older items – which don’t have an expiration date – will only work in Nomos.

Hangun Released 2 April

We just released 9 new handguns in the Wolfkopf store (up in the entrance, just downstairs, where all the weapons are).
They are all weapon type “HAND_GUN”.
Also there is an upgrade for the ZipGun, now version 0.68, available free at the Upgrade Sign, at the entrance, next to
the HUD big sign. Zipgun is weapon type “BASIC_GUN”. If you don’t have any gun, you can get one for 350G$ (game
money) at Angry Bob’s Government Store, next to the Pecos Club.

Food Type: Blood

Quick note to all Races with FOOD type BLOOD.
There are as of now two places to get buy blood from in the Sim,
The Hospital in St Anns Square
The Slaughter Zone Club on Highway 1.
If you want a quick feed and don’t want to RP it out then at the moment the best place is the Slaughter Zone.
If you decide that you want to RP a little to get your Food then Maybe the hospital is the best place.
In all cases, if there are players around in an area when you go to get food then at least a little RP should be
involved, no other player can deny you access to your food source, but its all about RP so no reason to make
it easy 🙂 This goes for all food types.
May I remind all players that do not eat normal food I.e. Vampires Demons Shapeshifters and Cyborgs that
their main food should be hunted for, or captured and kept as a food source, this is a large part of the game.
The bought food is only there to make life easier if food is scarce.
PLEASE NOTE:
The Hospital Blood bank has been moved to a room behind the reception counter so as not to interrupt  any
operations underway in the emergency room.

About skill items and rezzing problems

We are still waiting for the technical team to come and investigate the support ticket … I am sure that the problem will magically disappear before they are able to get here ;-/
Anyway, I added a few debug lines in the employment registers scripts and recompiled them. Please stay within 10 meters of distance when you use it. If the items don’t show up, please send an IM Kora Zenovka (me).

RP BANS (now limited to 1 WEEK)

We think that many RP bans are not meant to be forever, and right now unless you unban someone, they will stay in your
ban list forever. Also you won’t be able to unban them unless they are nearby.
Since we believe in people’s good nature and willingness to forgive and move on, we will make the RP bans
expire after ONE WEEK. In the meantime, we hope that you have worked something out between the two of you.
After a week, the roleplay should resume to normal. And we hope in everybody’s effort in making this possible.
If you want to keep the RP ban, you will have to resubmit it through the HUD and one more week will be added.

SKILLS UPDATE

The code for all the individual items and employment register have been updated. A few important info:
( 1 ) Some items, such as combat, psychic and justice ONLY works when your status allows you to.
For example, if you are owned by someone else, you won’t be able to use these items.
If you are OOC, or Non-Combatant, or your Mental is zero, or your Physical is zero, a message will tell you
that you don’t qualify.
( 2 ) Combat and Psychic items now attach by default on the Left Hand (as they should)
( 3 ) The values of Psychic, Combat, Armor have been increased. Check on them now.
( 4 ) The channel to type your message when you use the skill item is now random. Read the local message to find out
what to type in local chat.
( 5 ) The skills of Law and BioMech had been added (although these don’t affect KOS).
( 6 ) The delay to take the items before they get deleted has been increased to 6 minutes (if it wasn’t like that before).

VARIOUS UPDATE AT KOS

( 1 ) Businesses now gain directly the profits from the card game (and of course losses).
So if you run a business with the card game, take a look at your cash till.
It is possible that you may get a negative balance (if you get really lucky players).

( 2 ) Archangel Azrael is back. After a long vacation, the guard of the catacombs, Archangel Azrael, is back at work.
He is in charge of keeping the intruders away. Watch out!

( 3 ) The KOS Dungeon is now shared by both Knights and Palace Guards. It is safezones for both of them.
Also the cell doors can be open by any of them. (suggested by Joris Hudson)

I rewrote the script for the dance machine, and it is a now a little jewel of code. 🙂
Also we can run all the animations anywhere in the SIM. I am particularly proud of this, although
I am the only one to be able to enjoy the beauty of the code 😉
Anyway the Arabesque, Bedu Camp, Palace and Eventus Isle at KoS have now the new Dance Jars.

CHANGING SPECIES

If you want to change species, you will *not* lose your scores or skills anymore.
However you will be charged G$ 350 into your bank account (if you don’t have enough money there, you
will go in debt – negative balance).
The only data you will lose is your clan affiliation and/or your clan leadership.
Then you may form another clan within your new group.
To change species, there is a jar in the Game Room.
ps: The reason we apply a ‘game fee’ is to discourage the abuse of species switching
every 5 minutes.

A ‘Law’ skill was also added – different scope – to be used in Nomos.
This is just to explain if you see a ‘Justice’ skill in your profile instead of ‘Law’.

RESULT OF VOTE

The result is:
– 80 people voted that it is okay to step in after a fight has begun
– 24 people voted that it is not okay.

Therefore, the majority of people believe that being able to help out their friends in a combat situation
is essential to game play in KOS. We agree that making friends and allies is an essential part of the game
and using their aid in combat is a main reason for these alliances.

However, there are still one or two points to be taken into consideration before making a simple yes or no
ruling on the subject.

So here are a few things to bear in mind before joining in on a combat situation that is already underway.

First the most obvious is to make sure that the people fighting want you to be involved, this might be a
personal fight between two players.

If you are within sight of a combat situation which involves a member of your own Clan or an Allied Clan then
the rule is that you can indeed join that combat.

As pointed out by many people, role play introductions to combat already underway are totally impractical
unless there is a natural pause in the fight. So if the combatant players are not Rping at the time you join the
fight, then you may join without need for lengthy introductions.

Players who are neither friends or allies of those fighting should ideally stay out of the fight, or at the very
least have a good RP reason as to why they are joining in. One such reason might be an RP call for help from
one of the combatants.

TPing directly into a fight is not allowed. If you receive an IM from a friend in trouble and a TP is involved then
it should be to a logical location, so that your appearance on the scene is “believable”

The main problem we have sought to solve is the situation where 2 players start a fight and neither call for help.
Then as the combat progresses one of the players decides they do not want to loose so they call in friends,
and in many cases this allows the loosing player to win the fight. This is basically cheating.

Unfortunately written rules are too easily broken and no matter how much we try, it is impossible to police
all situations. So we will introduced a mechanical method that was originated to solve another problem, that of
being attacked the moment you arrive in the sim, before you have had a chance to rez and prepare for any
kind of Rp leave alone combat.

So there will now be a 2 minute pause before the meter becomes active after a TP into the sim.
This will mean that you must judge a combat situation early to assess if you feel you might need assistance,
and call for that help before the combat goes to far. If not you may find your friends will not get there on time
to help you out.

Added a ‘Rezzing Mode’, that it is a 2 minutes delay when you Teleport in the SIM, or in specific situations that
requires the meter to process some information, without interferance. During the Rezzing Mode, your meter
won’t allow you to fight and/or to submit damage from a weapon, as well as not being able to be captured,
if you are a prey.
And some minor bugfixes.

SGS Updates are available in the Game Room, at the Entrance. There is a HUD UPGRADE sign on the Wall.
Click on it and get the new upgrade.

EJECT MEMBERS FROM CLANS

If you are a clan leader and you wish to eject a member from your clan, you can now login to your account
on the web, edit your clan and eject the member directly.
This works only when that player is not at the specific region (KOS for KOS clans, etc).
